Synopsis: Yes this is it the remake of the 1960's TV Series THE MOD SQUAD. A decent remake returning the characters of Julie Barnes, Linc Hayes and Pete.

Hey it had to happen; with all the TV remakes out there, THE MOD SQUAD had to make it to the big screen. Yes, Captain Adam Greer's(Dennis Farina) kids are here in the big screen version of the popular television show. The movie wastes no time in getting into the story; the background on the 3 characters is slow dished out as the story goes along. The kids are already undercover at the beginning.

Right from the onset here, let me say that the characters themselves make fun of the trite situations they get into. An example is when they are on their way to the bad guys they complain "Don't tell me this is one of those bad guys dealing drugs in the dark abandoned warehouse scenarios." Yup they do this a lot during the film and surprisingly it works. The story is not especially complex but it does have some nice scenes. It isn't a great movie but it is fun to watch mostly because of the actors. I was disappointed that Dennis Farina was not used more as I really enjoy him. The three young actors do an admirable job in this film. Claire Danes (Romeo and Juliet) is very good as Julie Barnes, the part played originally by Peggy Lipton. Linc Hayes was originally played by the wonderful Clarence Williams III. Unfortunately Omar Epps tries for the moody, brooding style of Williams and fails. His best parts concern his 60's Lincoln that he drives. The best of the bunch was Giovanni Ribisi who played Pete (originally played by Michael Cole). I really enjoyed his acting and the way he played the character. I think he has good potiential and I'm looking forward to seeing him in The Other Sister where he stars with Juliette Lewis.

I'm not going to say anything else except to say this is a simple story of crooked cops and drug dealers. It's fun to watch either on the big screen or when it comes out on video. Worth the money just to see Giovanni.
