![]() ![]() DRAMA This Romeo and Juliet-like story is about a troubled young girl played by Hilary Swank who decides to become a boy, falls in love and for some insane idiotic reason gets murdered. BOYS DON'T CRY is directed and co-written by Kimberly Peirce. She has Hilary Swank play Teena without any compromise. She achieves a convincing compromise between female and male. Swank looks like a handsome young boy who wants to have a good time only she wants to have it as a boy. Unfortunately she falls in love with Lana played by Chloë Sevigny. Unfortunately her secret gets out and some do not take lightly to this deception. Rape and death follows but it is not just Teena who suffers for her play acting. It is a sad but poignant story of two star crossed lovers in a trailer park. Given a chance to see this movie you will find it a touching story so convincingly and simply told that you find yourself absorbed by it. Will you get a chance to see it, maybe in a big city within the walls of an art theatre. It will unlikely end up in your look megaplex, so if you see it on video eventually pick it up and enjoy. By the way if Hilary Swank looks familiar it's because she played Buffy's best friend in Buffy, The Vampire Slayer. The other victim, Candice, played Alicia Goranson will look familiar. Alice starred as Becky in the television show, Rosanne. ![]() |
