The story takes place on a small Irish coastal village where everyone knows each other. After an accidental viewing of Bo Derek's 10 at the local church all the men decide that they want to meet beautiful women like models and they want them to be from the United States. They decide to place an ad in the personal column of the Miami Herald asking for women who would like to meet eligible bachelors to come to their village for the big dance. The women find out about this little plot by steaming open the mail. The women plot their revenge while the men primp and prepare for the onslaught of beautiful women streaming to the village. It is a funny site to see these men waiting by the bus stop everyday to see the women getting off the bus. They never arrive but during the dance while the women cavort with a Spanish fishing crew the men really get to see what they have ignored all this time. The young local priest wants some of these men to succeed because he has never performed a wedding and he would like to do that at least once. Like him many of the men have secrets and longings that during the course of the film are brought out. Some have secretl;y been in love but they can not say anything. Some have never been with a woman and are trying to learn. Some come true others do not. That is what makes this film so wonderful to watch. We see the people grow and change throughout the movie. It is a wonderful film for those who especially enjoy character driven films. Catch it when it is released. |
