| VINCE'S MOVIE REVIEWS | MOVIE POSTERS | ![]() ![]() Dark Comedy Synopsis: Ravenous is a refreshingly original film, disturbing in content but humourous in its execution. NOT for children or the Squeamish. If you can sit through it you will be rewarded with a film worth every penny you pay. I have seen quite few films in the last week but I can honestly say that RAVENOUS was the best. It knocked my socks off. During this review I'll try not to gush to much about this film...but boy I had fun watching it. Hey the next day I even went out to The Press Box in Buffalo, N.y. where we devoured large quantities of the best tasting steaks around. So why is this idiot talking about steaks? See the movie. If this movie does not put you off meat then, like me you are a devout flesh eater. Seriously, this movie is not for the squeamish or faint of heart. Do your best to stick with it because you will be rewarded with a great film experience. Okay by now you have gathered that I highly recommend this film. This beautiful photographed film begins with Capt. John Boyd being awarded a medal of bravery for his cowardice. Huh? See the movie. As a reward he is sent to the Sierra Nevada mountain military outpost. A really desolate spot at best where weary western travellers stop off on their trip to Cailfornia. Here he meets a motely crew of military misfits led by commanding officer Hart. Things are cold and dreary and totally boring until a bedraggled stranger, Colqhoun, played by Robert Carlyle shows up at their door. The half starved and near frozen Scot survives to tell them about his ordeal with a group of settlers who became snow bound and were forced into cannibalism to survive. ![]() Here we learn of the old Canadian Indian legend of the Wendigo. The legend states that a man who eats the flesh of another steals the person's strength, spirit and that person's very essence. It also grants incredible healing powers but the downside is an insatiable craving and addiction to human flesh. A trap is set and sprung and then the fun begins. TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT. Who does one eat? Surprises, twists and turns will keep you on your toes during this film. This is all you are going to get from me so go shell out the bucks and enjoy this film. When this comes to video I'm going to buy it. ![]() Robert Carlyle and David Pearce are excellent in this film. All the actors are a pleasure to watch. Robert Carlyle you will remember from "Trainspotting" and "The Full Monty". David pearce made an impression as a drag queen in "The Adventures Of Priscella, Queen Of The Desert". Jeffery Jones credits are so long they would take this entire page, Amadeaus,Valmont, Beetluce, Ed Wood, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and much, much more.
