THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER

SYNOPSIS: Sometimes there is a greater crime than rape. Try to figure it out before the movie reaches the conclusion.

The General's Daughter is a rough film but it is... one excellent movie. This film is centered around a world where nobody asks and nobody tells...the Army...which likes to keep its secrets buried inside and does not want the outside world to know about it's dirty laundry.

John Travolta stars as warrant officer Paul Brenner, a top investigator with CID (Criminal Investigations Division) who with Madeleine Stowe as Sara Sunhill, another CID investigator become involved in a mysterious murder and supposed rape crime.

Captain Elizabeth Campbell is found bound spread eagled and dead in the middle of an Army training field. Everything about this case becomes a mystery, wrapped in a mystery, wrapped in a mystery. The crime becomes extremely critical when they find that the victim was the daughter of the famous General "Fighting Joe" Campbell played by James Cromwell This is a famous general reknown for leadership and valour in wartime. He is also recognized as man of honour and intergrity and the a leading contender to become vice president. The general's private life is threatened as we learn more and more about the father and daughter and those around them. What the two CID agents find is a complex web of lies and deceit that causes many more deaths.

Warrant officers can arrest any military personel any where in the world if that person is suspected of a crime.... even a general. Many fear them with good reason because as we find out military personal when arrested have no rights. The tale leads us to the general's faithful aide, and colleague, played by Clarence Williams III and to Timothy Hutton and James Woods. All are suspects with secrets that will be revealled throughout this suspenseful film. As the investigators move dangerously close to the truth, their lives are put in mortal danger and the ever so important code of honour is on the verge of destruction. Along the way they are told that when they discover a crime far worse than rape, they will discover the truth. I am not going to divulge any more of the story as this is one that you should try to unravel yourself. My wife and I both were mislead by the many clues and we were wrong on our guess as to who the killer was. This film is a rough film with one really graphic scene of rape that is really vile, so I do not recommend this for children in their pre-teens. This is one powerful movie that is not a date film; it will make women angry and men uncomfortable; so it succeeds in doing what it was supposed to do. When this film is released to the general public I would say rush out and see it, as it is worth the money and time spent.
