T-REX:
BACK TO THE CRETACEOUS
This is a movie shown in 3D in the IMAX format so it will only play in select theatres.
It sure has come a long since the stop motion animation of Willis O'Brien and Ray Harryhausen scared the pants off of us with their animated dinosaurs and giant apes. Computer animation has changed the way dinosaurs are brought to life. Ever since JURASSIC PARK introduced us to dinosaurs that seemed to actually be alive, there has been no going back. T-REX manages to capture these behemoths in all their glory. Let me tell you that having a Tyrannosaurus Rex stick his face in yours in 3D is a scary moment.
The story follows the adventure of a young who somehow jumps back and forth in time from the present to the Cretaceous period where she comes into contact with various dinosaurs. Her father is a famous palentologist who does accept all her theories of the T-REX laying eggs. This back and forth tripping helps put her theories to the fore front.
The film has a nice ending but there are a lot of draggy moments in the film. The scenery is beautiful as are the dinosaurs but I notice that there is still the old problem of perspective. There has always been a small problem where when there are people in the foreground and in the background...the people just do not seem to be in perpective, the size is noticably different between the figures. But that is a petty thing to worry about.
You will only be able to see this IMAX feature at select theatres specializing in showing these films. Check your local theatres.
