![]() Synopsis: Thomas Crown (Pierce Brosnan) is a bored millionaire who needs challenges and he has finally found some. THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR is a remake of director Norman Jewison's film of the same name starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. Unlike many remakes of late this one was very enjoyable. As caper movies go THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR definitely did outshine Entrapment with Sean Connery. The story moves well and has many good surprises, twists and turns. See if you can guess how it ends as you watch the story progress. Oh yes Faye Dunaway also has a part in this film. The story opens with a Trojan Horse robbery at an art museum where a bored millionaire sits watching his favourite painting. The burglary is foiled but someone still walks out with a priceless Monet. Thomas Crown is the last person the police would suspect but insurance investigator Catherine Danning (Rene Russo) sees it differently and she realizes that the chase was about to begin. Thomas Crown on the other hand realizes that at last he has found his challenge...and so the game begins. The movies cat and mouse premise slowly turns into one of romance. Watching Rene Russo in the love scenes and in a few topless scenes proves that women like her only become more beautiful with age. When you see her at a dance in her wild see- through dress your jaw may just drop. I felt that needed to be said so let us move on. Thomas realizes that he has fallen in love with Catherine a woman who is able to challenge him in many ways. The story turns into one of trust. He promises to change but will her professionalism allow her to trust him. Well heck, you will just have to see the movie to find out won't you. The ending is excellently executed and you will find it quite wild. Oh yes, I enjoyed this movie even though I figured out the trick ending fairly early in the film. The execution of the ending on the other hand was unexpected. Pierce Brosnan shows that he a very accomplished actor even if he did not do anymore James Bond movies. See this movie if you would like to be entertained by a good story with good characters and no special effects to speak of. |
