VINCE'S MOVIE REVIEWS

Thriller

Synopsis: Kevin Williamson writer of “Dawson’s Creek” and “Scream,” writes and directs a new movie, no, a wicked movie. Three students tangle with Tingle.

IRONY...the use of words to suggest the opposite of what they literally mean...incongruity between what might be expected to happen and what actually happens. I threw that definition into this review as it is used quite often throughout the film; so remember it.
Throughout her life Leigh Ann Watson (Katie Holmes) worked hard to be a success so that she could get out of her small town. Now with graduation just around the corner she has the chance to get the scholarship that will get her out of town and into college. All she need's is an "A" in history. The only problem is that the history teacher is the dreaded Mrs. Tingle. Over the last twenty years she has terrorized both students and faculity of Grandsboro High School. Now through a horrible trick of fate three friends have been accused of cheating. Completely over their heads they hold Mrs. Tingle prisoner in her home. But who is really the prisoner???
Kevin WIlliamson makes his directorial debut as well as writing the script. The story is tight and has many surprises but do not expect a slasher movie. It is a film concerning a wicked game that is played between these people. It becomes a play of words and emotions. Helen Mirren who plays MRS. TINGLE is a more than a believeable hard ass teacher, who has many of her own secrets. She is an intelligent, spiteful and vindictive woman who makes everyotne pay for her failures. Unfortunately, Mrs. Tingle can easily manipulate the minds of her young students to disasterous affect. This film will show you that teen movies can be made intelligently or splurge and go see this fine film just for the fun of it.
