Thriller

Real blue collar workers populate the Chicago neighbourhood in this supernatural thriller. Everyone knows each other and they all party together...BUT...do they have secrets that could destroy them. Kevin Bacon stars in one of his best performances as a soon to be tormented soul named Tom Witzky. He wants to break out of his routine life and get back to playing with his band, unfortunately he is destined to break out of his routine in a way that could destroy him and his family. He does not know that his son is a receiver who can see and hear the dead he also does not know he has the latent ability to do likewise. Taking a dare and being hypnotized by his sister-in-law unlocks this ability. The hypnosis scene is excellently done in a new and imaginative way. He soon realizes something is wrong with him and he definitely knows when he sees a ghost for the first time. That scene will make you jump out of your seat.
The visitations grow worse and more terrifying and even his sister-in-law can no longer stop what is happening to him. His life is taken over by hallucinations and dreams of what is to come and of what has passed. His life quickly becomes a nightmare as he is drawn in deeper and deeper. What makes this more interesting is that these things do not happen in strange places but in the everyday areas of life. They happen to average people, guys who like to go to a bar and drink; guys who like to hang and play football and love to go to baseball games. That is why this film is so effective, because it is effecting people like ourselves, everyday folk.
His son Jake (Zachery David Cope) undertands what his father is going through as he sees the dead as well. Unlike the young child in THE SIXTH SENSE, he does not seem to be bothered by his visions,; he accepts them as a way of life. He tells hid dad, "Don't be afraid of it, daddy." He also asks a young ghost named Samantha, "Does it hurt to be dead?"
Samantha is the ghost haunting Tom and that is all I'm going to say about her as I do not want to give too much away. His wife Maggie played by Kathryn Erbe does not understand what Tom and his son are keeping from her until she meets a cop who is also a receiver and who eventually explains what is happening. Everything come to a head with chilling results.
One thing you will be doing during this movie is that you will be sitting on the edge of your seat constantly. I still feel the chills going up my back as I write this. You will not be disappointed in this movie if you go to see it. is a great film.
