Radha Mitchell stars in Pitch Black as Fry, a docking pilot on the crew of a spacecraft that crashes on an inhospitable planet, where Fry must then lead the survivors to safety. Cole Hauser stars in Pitch Black as Johns, a lawman who finds himself marooned with his prisoner, Riddick, when the spacecraft transporting them crash-lands on a desert planet. In Pitch Black, Keith David portrays Imam, a steadfast Muslim cleric who, with three young pilgrims, is among the survivors of a spacecraft crash on a strange planet. David has been in ARMAGEDDON, VOLCANO & PLATOON In Pitch Black, Lewis Fitz-Gerald plays Paris, a self-interested antique dealer whose belongings include an abundance of vintage liquor. Claudia Black stars in Pitch Black as Shazza, a proactive geologist stuck on a barren planet. Rhiana Griffith is cast in Pitch Black as Jack, a young teenage runaway who finds no shortage of adventure after a spacecraft crash. All the above are the main characters in this Sci-Fi thriller except for the critters. How do we describe them? Hmm, okay...think of a cross between a hammerhead shark and Alien with lots of teeth and incredible speed. This is the main reason I went to see this Australian made movie. I got what I went for. Excellent creature effects and some terror filled moments. Actually PITCH BLACK was way better than I thought it would be. It really plays on our fears of being trapped outside in pitch black. BLAIR WITCH played on that fear as well and it made plenty of money. The director gave us lots of chills and thrills and lots of dead bodies as well. When you see how many of these toothy creatures there are you will be surprised if any humans survive. I must admit I was surprised at many of the goings on and in the ending. This is one movie not to miss if you are into science fiction creature movies. Trust me you will get value for your bucks. I do not want to give to much away so I won't spoil your fun. The basic story line is that a passenger space craft is thrown off course and crashes on a desert where the sun is really bright. Did I say sun? Nope two suns. So when they finally figure out that they are about to have an eclipse they really surprised at hoe dark it is going to be. Dark...no...pitch black...no light... nada...nothing. The catch is that they have discovered that flesh eating creatures live underground and they only survive in the dark where they come out to feed on anyone, anything and even on themselves. To complicate things even further one of the passengers you have to depend on is a a violent crazed killer.Picture yourself in that situation and tell me it doesn't give you the willies. Director David Twohy really keeps us on the edge as these people have to survive the creatures and some of their own kind. He uses our human proclivity towards our fears of the dark against us. He shocks us mostly by showing us quick and deadly glimpses of what surrounds the passengers, but, what they can not see even thought they know that these killers surround them. He let's us know they want to survive but will they? |
