Is this a great film? No I don't believe it will be a classic but it is very entertaining and I think it will do well at the boxoffice. Having three beautiful blondes in the cast sure doesn't hurt it. We have three blonde sisters...Georgia played by director Diane Keaton, who is the publisher of a popular woman's magazine aptly titled Georgia...Eve, the middle daughter who is the level headed daughter and care giver to the father, is played by the excellent Meg Ryan...and true to typecasting is the youngest Maddy played by Lisa Kudrow. These three are always on the cell phones talking to each other even though they are all over the country. The father is always on the phone to them as well. Of course they do a lot of HANGING UP on each other. ![]() Matthau and Ryan walk away with this movie as the two interact about their lives. Eve has taken her father to the hospital where he goes in for tests but he is quite ill and keeps slipping in and out of the past. This takes a tremendous toll on Eve and she is desperate for help from her sisters. The father threatens them with his death as he tries to get their affection which he does not always return. They eventually come together but the relationship has cracks in it and only the father can repair them. Matthau and his wife have been separated for years but know he obsesses about her. His wife played by Cloris Leachman has no desire to return or see him. Eve tries but she is not interested. She eventually tells her father that his mother died in an earthquake, to which his response is "I won". This film is directed more to the female audience obviously but it will be a good movie to take a date. This poignant movie will be time well spent. If you are not in a hurry stay for the ending song "Once Upon A Time"...it is an excellent ending to this movie. |
