Sci-Fi Thriller
For those of you out there that had trouble grasping THE MATRIX then be warned that this film may confuse you as well.
THE THIRTEENTH FLOOR has an interesting premise, one which I have always personal thought possible. Being a heavy
reader of sci-fi I have always pondered the questions posed in this movie.
The idea is that on the 13th floor of a corporate headquarters there exists a machine that can, using virtual reality, put you
into a different world, in the past. It is a world created by Hannon Fuller and his programing team and one which for all intents and purposes truly
exists in the eyes of all those living in this 1937 Los Angeles era. Excursions to this period become corrupt as some of these
VR occupants begin to discover the truth.
One of the scientists, Douglas Hall, has blackouts which lead to the possiblities that he has killed his friend Hannon Fuller and is killing members
of his team. A police detective is led into this web of deceit. Some people begin to blackout and do things that is not their
normal behaviour. The two universes begin to become unravelled and confused. Occupants from the real world and the VR
world merge and things become deadly.
Into this confusion has come a woman Jane(Gretchen Mol) who tries to help the situation or does she confuse it even more.
Enter her husband who like her is a VR traveller as well. The entire story begins to overturn the foundation of our world and
Douglas Hall must journey to this past world to try to find the solution and ultimately the truth of his existence.
THE THIRTEENTH FLOOR has many interesting turn of events and in a way the final truth is very disturbing because of it's implications.
Sit back, tune in and see if you can come to the truth before it is finally presented to you. This is a worthwhile and interesting film that will probably not
do as well as it should due to the fact that it suffers from a lack of name stars except for Vincent D'Onofrio. He has starred in many films including
Men In Black, The Whole Wide World and possibly the best epsiode of Homicide, Life On The Streets. See this film if you can as it is worth the money.
If you don't see it on the big screen make sure you at least catch the video when it is released. |
