| VINCE'S MOVIE REVIEWS | Synopsis: While on vacation Mira Sorvino meets and falls in love with a blind massage therapist played by Val Kilmer THE STORY While on vacation an engaged New York City architect Amy Benic (Mira Sorvino) meets a blind massage therapist and begins to fall in love with, charismatic masseur Virgil Adamson (Val Kilmer). Against the wishes of his sister Kelly McGillis she takes him back to New York to participate in a daring medical procedure that could restore his sight. The experimental surgery allows him to see the world as she sees it -- in all its chaotic, colorful glory. Unfortunately, Virgil has never been sighted so he has no knowledge to base sight on so everything he sees is truly chaotic. Try to picture walking into glass or not knowing what a woman or man looks like. Even trying to hold an apple is a terrifying experience. Virgil struggles to learn so he can experience what emotions and expressions mean. Putting myself in his place made feel truly helpless, I had never thought that sometimes in our endeavours to help a blind man see, we are not necessarily doing him a favour. This film puts the a twist in this type of scenario. I enjoyed the film. Unfortunately in this new, exciting time they spend together, I could see where this was leading and they soon learn that all gifts come with a price and vision is comprised of a multitude of senses. At First Sight is a contemporary love story based upon a true story documented by renowned physician and author Oliver Sacks (Awakenings). I think it is worth the money and time spent on this film. Catch it. Cast and Credits: Starring:Val Kilmer, Mira Sorvino, Nathan Lane, Kelly McGillis Directed by Irwin Winkler. Produced by Irwin Winkler Rob Cowan. Written by Steve Levitt. Distributed by MGM.
