THE FACULTY

SYNOPSIS
Students suspect that their teachers are aliens after bizarre occurances.
Back around 1970 I was lucky enought to interview the great Sci-Fi and Hugo Award Winner Roger Zelazany. I think at the time he had just finished writing "THE DOORS OF HIS MOUTH, THE LAMP OF HIS FACE". I remember that we were dicussing new ideas in sci-fi writing. He said that it really is extremely rare to come up with something new but that writing was notjust about coming up with new ideas but it was about taking old and used ideas and puttting a new spin on them. This is what Kevin Williamson has been doing with horror films lately. In THE FACULTY he has taken the ideas from INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS and put plenty of new twists to it. Of course the original INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS is much more terrifying but THE FACULTY manages to throw some good scares at the audience.

At Herrington High School the teachers have been starting to act strange and then students begin to act in a similar manner. They all act differently in character and have an overwhelming thirst for water. A group of students are unfortunate enough to see something that was not meant for their eyes and now they are on the run while trying to save their entire town from some kind of alien threat that has taken over everyone's bodies. Creature effects are very good, interesting and effective. The story moves along at a rapid pace and nothing seems to be wasted. This is Williamson's gift. This film is worth the bucks. I was not bothered at all. The only disappointment for me was that I guessed who the queen critter was to early. Otherwise I enjoyed myself while watching this film. Catch it soon.
