![]() Comedy SYNOPSIS: Tricky Dicky wasn't so tricky but he was a Dicky. It's 1972 and the Watergate scandal begins. This is basically a story of two girls who come into the life of Richard Nixon, played by DAN HEDAYA, and cause the downfall of his presidency. Okay so it is a fictional account but it is very funny. I enjoyed myself watching this film but I don't think I would have if I didn't know anything about Watergate. DICK is a teenager movie for adults. I say this because you have to know something of the period to understand most of the in gags concerning the Watergate scandal. What basically happens here is that the writers have put these girls into this period to fill in all the vague and unexplained things that happened during the famous scandal. For example who was Deep Throat and why was that the name he picked. Many things occurred during that period that were unexplained. Why did Nixon erase 18.5 minutes of his tapes et cetra. Well DICK explains all these things. Michelle Williams from Dawson's Creek portrays one of the two girls along with Kirsten Dunst. These two ditzy blondes somehow end up becoming Nixon's dog walkers while one of the girls falls in love with Nixon. They help him and his administrations until they discover the truth behind the Nixon Dirty Tricks. They realize that he is not the man they admire. Things go bad and soon the girls have to pit themselves against the Nixon people to survive. Some of the highlights are Nixon on a white steed with Barry White music playing in the background. Lots of special cookies with secret ingredients.Though this is not a classic the laughs are plentiful and you will leave the theatre laughing. That's the way you should leave a comedy. Famous last words from girls..."It's going to be different now. They'll never lie to us again" Well that's irony. The movie ends with the song "You're so Vain" and isn't that appropriate? |
