BLAST FROM THE PAST
Comedy
Synopsis: The film is a romantic comedy about a naive young man who comes out into the world after being in a nuclear fallout shelter for 35 years. This is a fun move with lots of laughs. Except for some language anyone can see this even though young children would not appreciate it.

Watching Blast from the Past you can not help but have visions of last years Pleasantville. Unlike the premise of Pleasantville where 2 teenagers end up in a 50's type sitcom where everything is pleasant, BLAST FROM THE PAST thrusts a young 60's lad into the harsh world late 90's Los Angeles.

The story begins during a house party in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Fearing that the world is on the brink of the much feared Third World War, Christopher Walken takes his pregnant wife, Sissy Spacek into their eleborate but secret bomb shelter. Being a brilliant but paranoid scientist he has constructed a world, underground, to hold them for 35 years until the world is once again safe from nuclear fallout. Unfortunately for them it is a false alarm but an out of control jet plane crashes into their house causing a devestating explosion which conceals the shelter. To make sure that they do not panic and attempt to leave ahead of thime an autmatic lock seals them in for 35 years. Fearing that the majority of the people may be dead on the surface, The Webbers make the shelter their new home for the next 35 years.

Shortly after they have son, Adam who grows up in the shelter with any visual or radio contact with the outside world; all his training coming from his parents. He becomes a master in all the arts and sciences as well as being fluent innumerous languages. From his mother he learns good manners and how to dance masterfully. The older Adam is played by Brendan Fraser (George Of The Jungle). As the years pass by he finds himself longing for the outside world and for girls.

Okay, let's just say he eventually makes to the surface where he finally meets Eve played by Alicia Silverstone and her gay friend played by David Foley(NewsRadio/Kids In The Hall). The world has changed and the contrasts make for a wonderfully humourous film. That's it, I don't want to spoil the laughs for you. So go see this with lots of people that way you won't feel silly laughing out loud.

What is it? The sky! I've never in my life seen anything like it before!

"It would be nice if you could meet a girl who's not a mutant... and from Pasadena."
