THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT
Mock Horror Documentary
Synopsis:

In October of 1994, three student filmmakers dissapeared in the woods near Burkittesville, Maryland, while shooting a documentary. One year later, their footage was found. They have never been found.

Okay now here is the scenario. A cannibal family has this girl see and they have their grandfather trying to kill her by hitting her on the head the way he used to kill cattle but the grandfather is really old see, so he keeps missing and the victim, she keeps screaming. Each attempt drives her more and more insane until finally in a burst of pure maniacal terror she burst free and jumps out the second store window and goes rolling to the ground. She begins running on a twisted ankle. She runs through the bramble bushes and trees while one of the maniacs chases her. She runs screaming hysterically. This lasts for about 12 minutes on the screen and you're ready to ripe the armrest off it's mooring. That was the single most terrifying screen image that I have seen. Only one problem here, that is not a scenario from THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT.Come on, see if you can guess what movie that scene was from. If you can't figure out then ask me by e-mail at vjm@metrocity.com and I'll give you the answer.
On the opening week THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT made $28,000,000 dollars because it promised to show what real terror is all about, If you have ever been lost in the woods even for a short while, you will understand what this terror is like, but, now throw in a terrifying legend of a witch, human sacrifice, spooky noises in the dark and shakey documentary style camera work and you have a film that will make you tense and quite possibly terrified.
This is a movie that should chill you to the bone, unfortunately it did not do it for me. My daughter, on the other hand, who is 19 could not sleep for hours after seeing it because she found it so disturbing. I guess I have seen too many of these films and am jaded. I kept seeing images of what they should have done to make it work better for me. Now, since young people have not seen many films like this, it leads me to believe that this film is this generations NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. I remember having many bad dreams after seeing that movie. To make matters worse a dear friend was killed and I kept resurecting him in my dreams only to watch him become a living undead being.
Okay enough of fond memories. BLAIR WITCH PROJECT works because the imagination can be a terrifying thing. This film does on $20,000 budget what films like THE HAUNTING could not do with their multi million budget. The simple documentary style of camera work makes it feel like you are right there with the trio running for your life in the woods. The acting is excellent as they seem to be real people caught in a real situation in which they have lost all control and are in peril of their lives.
Basically the plot concerns three students who decide to do a documentary film on the Blair Witch mystery. They go on location and interview people whom are actually used to bring us up to speed on the myth. Then the three head for the woods to the location of where the human sacrifices took place. There the terror begins and a journey into madness becomes a reality. If I give you much more it would wreck the film for you, so this is all you get. Go spend your money and see the film but remember if you are like me you must avoid, on peril of your life, letting out a hysterical rant of ghostly laughter because the audience will kill you. You know when I went to see this movie not one person spoke, coughed or giggled. You would have heard a pin drop,
By the way when the credits roll you will see the film was produced by HAXAN FILMS...you will not catch on to the gag there unless, of course you have seen the old film classic called...HAXAN, WITCHCRAFT THROUGH THE AGE. It is one of the most interesting witchcraft movies ever made. Try to catch it sometime.
