Romantic Comedy/Drama
A group of college friends come together for a wedding to near disasterous results.

A well written story makes for an especially good time when going to the movies. Special effects are not the end all be all of the film industry. THE BEST MAN proves that an excellent script and good acting makes for a fine evening out at the movies. The story is all about a group of former college students who come together for a wedding. This ensemble black cast are really good together and they all embue their characters with life and believeability as they prepare for the big day.

Of course if we didn't have conflict in a stroy it could end up being a pretty dull movie. The glitch in the works is that Harper(Taye Diggs) has written a book that he is trying to keep away from everyone until after the wedding. it is based on the lives and secrets of his friends whom he has tried to disguise in the novel. Nope...uh uh...no such luck. One of the friends gets an advance copy and passes it on to eventual disasterous consequences in the lifes of some of the friends.

We get to sit back and watch how the book affects all their lives. Some cope, some do not and some want to just kill him. Lies told between friends come out to bite them in the ass and things do get physical. We hav eto wait to see how things work out. Does real friendship manage to win at the end? Do some break up in the wake of the revelations? Are new loves formed? Heck, will the wedding even go off???

Well spend the money and go find out yourself. I guarantee that if you like good movies, you will love THE BEST MAN. If all you love are action films then skip this one. If you want to take a date to a film that will make her happy, then take her to this movie.

There was some criticism of the over use of the word "n**ger" by the characters. In most films I find that word distasteful just like when people use the word "w*p" when referring to Italians. Yes I am Itatalian. Here the use is not vicious since it is used between friends and does not have the same connotation. My cousins and myself still call each other "w*p" when we are together as a term of comraderie. As long as no outsiders say it to us them we feel comfortable with it. The actors were friends and they looked comfortable saying it as well. So ignore this criticism and enjoy this film about friendships. It is good to see a film with any gangs and guns when it comes to stories about African Americans or as I believe they should be called...Americans.
