Thriller
Do you ever wish you could do it again the right way?

I saw RUN LOLA RUN in German With English Subtitles and I am not aware if it is dubbed anywhere out there. This 80 minute film is originally titled Lola Rennt. At first I thought this was going to be a small artsy film with no special attributes. I sat there spellbound by this quirky little film. It is a brilliant film a Lola who has exactly 20 minutes to run and save her boyfriend from death. The time is 11:40 am and Manni, her boyfriend, will be killed at 12 noon. It seems he lost 100,000 DM that was exchanged for smuggled diamonds. His boss Ronni will kill anyone for stealing even a bottle beer from him. Will she make it? Ahh there's the rub.

The movie moved so well that I didn't even notice the subtitles. The story telling on this film is so well structured that the film just moves as it progresses the story ahead at full speed. The director decided to begin the run with a mixture of perfectly placed animation with the live action. The photography is very MTV style. He uses quick jump cuts that make the movie just fly along. The music just pumps you up as it sends you flying into the story. It is a movie of three possiblities.

The flame haried Lola has to run like the wind to find money to save Manni. She runs to reach her father but along the way she interacts with people she meets. In the brief seconds she comes into contact with these people we get a quick photographic essay of how their lives turn out. We see some of these people face a future of riches and some a pauper's death.

Now the gimmick in this film is that the story begins again exactly the same two more times, BUT, the story is now different because she affects the lives of these strangers in different ways. This is what makes it so interesting. Now, if this film is playing anywhere near you run out to see it. If not catch it on video when it comes out. It is well worth the time and money.
