THE BACHELOR
Romantic Comedy
At the very beginning of the movie, THE BACHELOR seems like a quirky little movie with real potential. We see a herd of wild horses stampeding across sun baked plains, while David Byrne belts out the words to "Don't Fence Me In" on the soundtrack. Chris O'Donnell testifies to the truth of these words in the voice over: Men treasure freedom, he tells us. "In his heart, every man is a wild, untamed mustang."

Buster Keaton made this movie originally in 1925 and if you watch it you will see how similiar this film is to THE BACHELOR. This updated version is cute but it isn't exactly a classic. Yes I laughed quite a bit and I did enjoy the film. You will enjoy this romantic comedy also so take your wife or date; sit back and have a good laugh. Chris O'Donell and Rene Zellweger make for a very good couple on the screen. The rest of the film gives us a seasoned and talented cast in the likes of Sir Peter Ustinov , Hal Holbrook James Cromwell and Ed Asner.

Here's the pitch. Jimmie Shannon (Chris O'Donell) watches all his friends, one by one, fall to the dreaded horror of marriage. He see's himself as a wild mustang running to escape the clutches of any women. Let us say he has a problem with commitment. A chance meeting in a restaraunt brings Anne (Renee Zellweger) together with Jimmie and a romance ensues. After a three year relationship he realizes he has to propose and take their relationship to the next step. He does it badly, and a split occurs. He still loves her but she says she is leaving the country.

During this time Jimmie's grandad dies and leaves everything, $100 million, in his will to Jimmie. There is a catch. His grandad wanted grandchildren so the will gives Jimmie until his 3oth birthday to get married and that is only 24 hours away. He must also have children and he can not get divorced for three years. If doesn't he will lose everything, unfortunately his business is included in this lose and his employees will lose their jobs. This he can not allow so with the help of his best friend, Marco (Arte Lange) and his lawyers he proceeds to propose to all his ex girl friends. Of course all this time he is still in love with Anne. All his proposals are very funny and when Marco puts an for a bride in the classifieds, chaos ensues. The picture of hundreds of brides in white chasing Jimmie through the streets are quite funny. We will leave the rest of this story for you to see. Enjoy.
