COMEDY A boy and his pie come to terms. I went in to see this movie rather late so you will probably see AMERICAN PIE on video. I didn't bother going because I figured this would be one of theose sophmoric teenage pictures that was nothing but raunchy sex jokes, lots of bare breasts and sex. Well I was wrong. Yes there is plenty of sexual innuendo, sex play and really foul language. Aside from that we have a real coming of age picture with heart. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was way better than I thought. It was easy to see why it did so well at the boxoffice. It is worth seeing if you still can in a theatre; if not catch it on video as soon as it comes out. The story follows a number of male and female teenagers getting ready to go to their prom. The all important prom night where every young male feels he has to score. He has to get a female to bed. I have no idea where this tradition began but I certainly know I wasn't part of it. I don't think I missed either. That is the point of this movie. Sex is not the most important part of the prom night and some of them find that out. Sure some do get lucky, but lucky because they found out the truth and real love. Some of course will find disappointment and some will willingly put aside those thoughts because they realize that there is more to life and love than sex. Oh God did I say that? Somebody shoot me. AMERICAN PIE ends up being an affectionate and honest look at a time in our lives when our hormones rage and we teeter on the edge of the sexual abyss. It was nice to see they way this film shows the reality. Now let us not forget that this film is filled with lots of laughs. The infamous pie scene of course was hysterical and so was the computer video sequence and that was really funny. I really have nothing bad to say about this movie so go out and enjoy it.
